Whitney Agyeman

Master of Social Work Clinical Intern

Hello!

As someone proud of their Ghanaian roots, the value of family, community, and culture drives much of my mission to advocate for my clients and break down barriers to mental health engagement. As someone who understands far too well the challenges of growing up in a low-income household, I also understand that resiliency one can be developed from it as well. Unfortunately, that sometimes means also having learned a few unhealthy coping skills along the way to survive through it.

The good news is that we can make a choice to let go of the coping skills that are no longer serving us in a helpful way anymore. If you are ready to evolve into the version of YOU you strive to be, in a compassionate, empowering, and creative space, let’s start this work together.

Sincerely,

Whitney

My Approach & About me:

My approach is rooted in strength-based practice, motivational interviewing, and relational-cultural therapy. I show up authentically and compassionately, partnering with you to cultivate mindfulness skills, coping strategies, and a sense of balance that supports your growth and empowerment. At Respira, I look forward to working with individuals ages 12+ one-on-one, as well as leading social-skills and empowerment groups and wellness workshops.

Outside of therapy, you’ll find me enjoying the perfect self-care day: a thrilling Marvel action movie, experimenting with new recipes, and dancing around the kitchen to Afro-beat and Caribbean tunes. I look forward to supporting you on your journey!

Fees and services

As a current graduate student, I am unable to contract with insurance at this time; however, I aim to offer mental health services at a generous sliding scale rate to reduce barriers to access to care in our community. At Respira, we utilize The Green Bottle Sliding scale model to help with making therapeutic needs sustainable and affordable as much as possible for our clients. This method is based on the Honor system, where you determine the fee affordable to you, based on individual tier description to best relate to.

Let’s get started!

By physically separating from the routines and surroundings of daily life, you allow yourself the chance to fully pour into your personal growth and healing journey. Additionally, in-person sessions make it possible to incorporate more hands-on and creative approaches-like art, movement, or other experiential techniques-that can enhance your therapeutic experience and support healing in a holistic way.
