Hello, again!
As a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I bring over a decade of experience and a deep passion for helping others heal and grow. Growing up in Hartford, CT, I saw firsthand the challenges and barriers of living in an inner city—both at home and in the community. Those experiences shaped my mission: to help people rise above obstacles and create the lives they envision for themselves.
In therapy, you'll find I utilize a combination of evidence-based techniques and various holistic practices to aid in my trauma-informed approach. My goal is to tailor each session to fit the unique needs of my clients, guiding them through their healing journeys with care and intention.
I pride myself on creating a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their challenges, rediscover their strengths, and feel empowered to take meaningful steps forward. Whether I’m working with someone navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, substance use, or relationships, I approach every interaction with compassion, empathy, and creativity.
I also love incorporating my relational skills and strength-based perspective into groups, workshops, and retreats. It’s important to me that therapy feels authentic and uplifting—a space where people feel seen, heard, and truly supported as they work toward transformation.
At the heart of everything I do is the belief that healing happens when we honor our unique voices and embrace our differences. It’s an honor to walk alongside my clients as they take this brave step toward growth and self-discovery.
In my personal life, you can find me snuggled up with my dogs Cookie and Cream, crafting, dancing, doing movie night with my husband and three kiddoes, and enjoying some ice cream! Oh and laughing, lots of laughing! I enjoy bringing my sense of humor into the session and welcome you to do the same!
Sincerely,
Shasterin
At the core of my practice is the relational-cultural approach, which underscores the importance of connection, safety, and mutual respect in the healing process. I prioritize creating an environment where clients feel supported and safe to explore their vulnerabilities. This emphasis on relationships fosters resilience, encouraging clients to engage in meaningful growth and self-discovery. By nurturing a sense of belonging and mutual understanding, the relational-cultural approach helps clients build the confidence and strength to overcome challenges and embrace their fullest potential.
This client-centered approach fosters self-awareness and self-empowerment, encouraging individuals to explore their values and goals in a nonjudgmental space. By affirming past experiences—both challenges and triumphs—I help clients recognize their resilience and capability, cultivating the confidence to embrace personal transformation. Motivational interviewing emphasizes collaboration and autonomy, equipping clients to navigate their unique journeys with purpose and empowerment, ultimately fostering lasting, positive change.
I approach addiction treatment with compassion and a trauma-informed perspective, recognizing addiction as a complex issue that impacts both individuals and families. My harm reduction framework ensures clients receive support without judgment, meeting them where they are in their journey. I emphasize more of a S.M.A.R.T. Recovery model to treatment to help client's build the confidence and trust in themselves to establish and sustain their manageable goals. This method validates the struggles of addiction while focusing on reducing harm, building healthier habits, and addressing co-occurring disorders. I emphasize the importance of creating a strong support system, empowering clients to tackle the challenges of addiction with courage and resilience. Together, we work to heal not just the individual but also the family and relational dynamics impacted by substance use.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a specialized therapeutic approach designed to address trauma and its lasting effects. EMDR helps clients process distressing memories and work through negative self-cognitions that often arise from traumatic experiences. Through the use of bilateral stimulation, I guide clients in reprocessing these memories, reframing their perceptions, and fostering a more positive self-concept. This method not only alleviates symptoms of trauma—such as anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation—but also empowers clients to build healthier coping mechanisms and embrace resilience. EMDR offers a structured, effective pathway for healing, enabling individuals to reclaim their narrative and thrive.
A variety of therapeutic setting options are available to fit your sensory, processing, and scheduling needs. Whether it is virtual, in the community, or the office, the flexibility allows for comfort to remain a top priority.
The benefits of In-Person Therapy!
In-person individual therapy offers a unique opportunity to step away from your everyday environment and create an intentional space to focus on yourself. By physically separating from the routines and surroundings of daily life, you allow yourself the chance to fully pour into your personal growth and healing journey. Additionally, in-person sessions make it possible to incorporate more hands-on and creative approaches—like art, movement, or other experiential techniques—that can enhance your therapeutic experience and support healing in a holistic way.
The benefits of Telehealth Availability!
The option of Telehealth sessions allow you to keep your mental health a priority flexibly and sustainably! I have many clients who fit me into their day-to-day schedules by sharing their lunch lunch breaks with me. Telehealth also allows for the ease of a before or after work/school session.
Clients find that walk & talk sessions can alleviate the pressures and discomfort of eye contact during vulnerable discussions, allow them movement for those that soothe through fidgeting, and can enjoy a more open environment. Walking is a great way to introduce bilateral stimulation during the session which has been found to be a helpful tool in processing emotions and information. Walk & Talk therapy sessions are planned in advanced with client consent and mutually agreed walking trail in the community.
